Bert Jansch was often quoted as saying “I’m not playing for anyone, just myself”, and this feels no more apparent than on ’s Avocet, his beautifully meditative paean to British birds.. This isn’t to say that Jansch was throwing commercial success to the wind, or was unaware of his audience; more that this album feels like a uniquely personal reflection of him.

Tracks 1 to 6 are the album "Avocet" - first released in Denmark on Exlibris Records EXL (credited to Bert Jansch and Martin Jenkins). It was then released February in the UK (credited to only Bert Jansch) on Charisma CLASS 6 and November in the USA on Kicking Mule KM /5(48).

Nov 18,  · The result is a uniquely atmospheric album that’s equal parts relaxed and intense. No wonder it’s considered one of Jansch’s greatest albums. To mark the 40th anniversary of Avocet, Earth Recordings will release a special, expanded version of the album on white vinyl on November The vinyl will include the album’s six tracks.

Bert Jansch – Avocet LP (40th Anniversary Edition) For fans of Jansch this is often the album that is singled out as his best work. The freedoms of a post-Pentangle career are much in evidence; folk rock and even trad folk give way to an album that is not only without lyrical accompaniment but really quite orchestral, classical even, in.

The plucky "Kingfisher" sees Jenkins' brassy violin playing cat and mouse with Jansch and Thompson's percussive picking, while the simple yet somber piano-driven "Lapwing" and the sprightly closer "Kittiwake" present opposite ends of the pastoral landscapes that Jansch, Jenkins, and Thompson manage to so effortlessly invoke throughout the LP's.

Avocet is the 12th album by Scottish folk musician Bert Jansch, released in in UK. The album was first released by Ex Libris in Denmark in late with alternate album cover and one alternate track title, although no difference in recorded content. The title track "Avocet" was inspired by the traditional song " The Cuckoo ".
